For Hiring Illegal Immigrants
As Malaysia is not taking in any more new foreign workers for now, employers should take the opportunity to register an illegal immigrant in the country, under the newly implemented Illegal Immigrant Recalibration Plan which ends on June 30, 2021.
But do not wait for June to act, spring into action NOW! It will take time for the relevant authorities to evaluate each employer’s request.
The Plan encompasses two main components —
* Return Recalibration Programme where illegal immigrants can return to their country of origin voluntarily but subject to specific stipulated conditions.
* Labour Recalibration Programme which allows 4 sectors, namely, construction, manufacturing, plantation and agriculture to employ illegal immigrants subject to stringent conditions determined by the government through the Immigration Department and the Peninsular Malaysia Labour Department.
Construction, manufacturing, plantation and agriculture qualify as they are classified under the 3D sectors — Dangerous, Difficult and Dirty.
Only illegal immigrants from 15 countries — Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, India, Indonesia and the Philippines qualify for the programme.
Offenders face a fine of RM50,000 or 1 year jail or both, and employers with more than 5 illegal immigrants face caning.
