Laughing Together To Achieve World Peace

and enhance physical, mental and emotional health

Covid-19 has opened up a window of opportunities for virtual laughter clubs to open worldwide, as people want to laugh amid the gloom.

Dr Madan Kataria’s keynote address before launching the first ever Mega Laughter Malaysia event held on the 6th of Feb on Zoom and attended by laughter enthusiasts from across the globe.

Depression is the No. 1 sickness in the world.  There is no treatment for depression.  Those suffering from depression need support, love and care and this is what the Laughter Yoga Movement stands for.

Laughter benefits one’s physical, mental and emotional health.

Everybody can laugh when everything is ok.  Virtual Laughter Yoga clubs have sprouted since the pandemic.  From what had started as a recreation activity in a neighbourhood park in Mumbai, India in 1995, Laughter Yoga is now practiced in 115 countries.

Dr Madan’s vision to achieve World Peace through Laughter is also manifesting this year as the non-profit organisation has been given the green light to build two headquarters  — one in India (Nashik) and one in the United States (California).

The good doctor also praised the Malaysian team, namely the Johor Bahru Happy and Joyous Club, and Laughter Yoga Malaysia for the success of the Mega Laughter Malaysia event and for bringing Laughter Yoga to hospitals, dialysis centres, cancer patients, among others, over the last decade.

Hefty Price To Pay

For Hiring Illegal Immigrants

As Malaysia is not taking in any more new foreign workers for now, employers should take the opportunity to register an illegal immigrant in the country, under the newly implemented Illegal Immigrant Recalibration Plan which ends on June 30, 2021.

But do not wait for June to act, spring into action NOW! It will take time for the relevant authorities to evaluate each employer’s request.

The Plan encompasses two main components —

* Return Recalibration Programme where illegal immigrants can return to their country of origin voluntarily but subject to specific stipulated conditions.

* Labour Recalibration Programme which allows 4 sectors, namely, construction, manufacturing, plantation and agriculture to employ illegal immigrants subject to stringent conditions determined by the government through the Immigration Department and the Peninsular Malaysia Labour Department.

A choice whether to stay or return home

Construction, manufacturing, plantation and agriculture qualify as they are classified under the 3D sectors — Dangerous, Difficult and Dirty.

Only illegal immigrants from 15 countries — Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, India, Indonesia and the Philippines qualify for the programme.

Offenders face a fine of RM50,000 or 1 year jail or both, and employers with more than 5 illegal immigrants face caning.

Hospitals receive medications worth RM3,000

Doctors and healthcare workers in Johor who are treating Covid-19 patients today saw a ray of hope when they received medications worth RM3,000 today.

Paracetamol and azithromycin were contributed by Johor MCA Government Coordinating Affairs chairman Michael Tay, who recently also led a team of volunteers to distribute canned drinks and packed food to medical frontliners.

As Tay had earlier promised, the medicines bought from private pharmacies upon getting advice from a qualified medical doctor, were given to the medical team locked in a battle with the coronavirus pandemic.

Tay, who is also the former Hospital Sultanah Aminah visitors board chairman, said the medicines would be used to treat patients at the Permai Hospital and Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom, aka Kluang Hospital.

“We always keep in touch with Dr Aman Rabu (Johor state Health Director) who updates us on the current needs of health workers.

“I learnt today that more than 400 patients who were infected with Covid-19 and were admitted to Permai Hospital and Kluang Hospital have been discharged so far. The mortality rate was only two to three percent and those who succumbed had weak immune systems.

“With proper medication and rest which can build up one’s immune system, recovery is quite certain.  There’s hope for those who have contracted Covid-19 with these medications and the dedicated doctors at work.

“We believe these medications that we’ve contributed will reinforce the recovery process, and we will supply more when needed.  But the public also needs to observe the lockdown seriously as we need to flatten the curve.

“A total of 250 personal protective equipments (PPE) will also be given out when the supply from China arrives,” Tay said after handing over the medicines at the Permai Hospital.
